Every year in March, the Alliance française network in South Africa celebrates French language and Francophone cultural diversity throughout the country. This year, the Consulate General of Madagascar in Cape Town took an active part in the celebration that was held on Friday 20th March 2015.
A Malagasy cultural showcase had been provided for the exhibition. Numerous Malagasy art crafts were on display: hats, lamba landy, rofia, sikotra, hazomanjakabe ny tany, antemora paper. Tourism brochures were also made available, but also books such as “Malagasy tales and legends”.
Malagasy folk songs from the highlands but also from the South were played during the exhibition as well as various video projections (“Discover Mada” and “Madagascar Authentic Island”).
A cocktail was offered by the French Consulate during which the Consul General of Madagascar addressed the audience. Mr Consul General Bary Rafatrolaza took the opportunity to reaffirm the dedication of the Malagasy government in hosting the next Francophonie Summit in 2016.
The evening was concluded with songs and traditional folk dances from the different participating countries including prestations by the Malagasy diaspora in Cape Town.
