Flights

There are currently two (2) airline companies service Madagascar from South Africa, with direct flights mainly between Johannesburg and Antananarivo. The said companies are:

There are at least five (5) scheduled fights weekly between South Africa and Madagascar

Airlink also provides a weekly fight to the mining town of Fort Dauphin.

Travellers are advised to contact the concerned airline companie for current or their travel agency, for up to date flights schedule and booking.

Airport Journey:It takes at least 45 minutes to reach the airport from town, and approximately 1 hour at peak hour.

Taxis

Despite their condition, the taxis are safe to take, and it will cost you ± R170,00 from the airport into town. Taxis can be hired out on a daily basis as well. This is a good idea when wanting to make various visits as the taxi drivers are familiar with the routes. To rent a taxi : ± R 300,00 per day, but it is advisable that the rate be discussed PRIOR to departure. From one destination in town to another will cost you ± R 10,00.

Car rental

The traffic in Antananarivo is extremely busy and it is quite difficult to find your way around. Maps are difficult to come by too.
