Visa Information

Visas are required for South African and all other foreign passport holders, to travel to Madagadcar.

In line with the Malagasy government strategy to turn Madagascar into a World-class tourism and business destination, our process of issuing a visa is quite simple and fast. We indeed process and issue a visa in only 24 hours, provided that the applicant produces alll the required documents.

  Visa Requirements (for a visit not exceeding 3 months)

- Passport valid at least 6 months longer than intended return date which has unused pages for Madagascar visa
- Original Air ticket
- A completed application form ( down-load the form at the end of this page). Delays may occur if all questions are not answered
- Two (02) Passport size photos, black and white or colour for each applicant, regardless of age
- Visa fee is absolutely non-refundable.

  Documents

The Ministry of Interior requires that applicants for tourist and business visas demonstrate the intent to depart Madagascar after a temporary visit. As evidence of this intent, we suggest you submit the following documents with your completed application.

1. A letter from your employer on a company letter head, stating how long you will be away from work, itinerary or invitation letter if you did not book through a travel agency. If you are travelling on business, the letter from your company should detail the nature of your business, including Malagasy companies (full details of companies) or offices you will visit and invitations from the companies in Madagascar.

2. If self-employed, a letter from your accounting firm, and/or a copy of your license or registration, these letters should specify your company's name.

3. Research and conference, a letter of invitation from the organizations in Madagascar.

  Transformable visa (for migrants)

A Transformable Visa is a one - month visa that allows the holder, once in Madagascar, to apply for a long term visa. Understanding that no Malagasy Embassy/Consulate has the authority to issue a long term visa.

Required documents for a transformable visa :

FOR EMPLOYMENT

1. Letter requesting a transformable visa from your company to the attention of His Excellency Mr Consul General of Madagascar in Cape Town - South Africa
2. Employment contract issued by the compagny that will employ you in Madagascar and stamped by the concerned ministry
3. Submission certificate of the employment contract (from the "Service regional de l`emploi" in Antananarivo)
4. passport (photocopy + original)
5. Two (02) Passport sized photos
6. Employment certificate from your company
7. Police records of less than three months issued by the Ministry of justice of your country
8. Reference letter
9. Open return ticket (Johannesburg - Antananarivo - Johannesburg)

  Cruising permit

If your are planning to travel to Madagascar by private boat
You need a cruising permit prior to applying for the visa. The application for the cruising permit is directly lodged with the Malagasy Port Authorities in Madagascar at the following address:

Please do provide the port authorities with the following information:
- Ship characteristics (lengh, width...)
- Two photos of the sides of the ship
- Crew and Passengers list
- First Port of call and expected date of arrival
- Projected circuit/itinerary
- Estimated date of departure from last Port of call in Madagascar
